You make it sound like seeing the Royalty and getting awards isn't
important? How about being able to make it to all the kingdom level events
that you want to attend? How about making it possible for the Royalty to be
at all the events that they want to attend? It used to be that it was
unheard of for a member of the Royalty to be absent for a peerage ceremony
or a baronial investiture. Now, no one thinks twice about it. It used to
be that virtually every seneschal attended unevent, what are the numbers
now? It's not geographical size that's the problem, it's the size of the
populace, the number of events, and the number of groups.

and how does making kingdoms smaller change any of that? i mean, besides
getting awards or seeing royalty? will making kingdoms smaller change the
amount or distance people are willing to travel? or will they still choose
to stay close to home and not visit with other groups? how insular should
the sca become and to what benefit? i understand the gripes about travel, i
suffer through filling my tank and shelling out $70 to do so just like the
next guy. but breaking kingdoms into tiny entities with imaginary borders
wont change that.

Scripsit Logan:
> atlantia is a small kingdom geographically.
This is not as true as it once was. Trimaris, AEthelmearc, Atenveldt, and
Caid all have noticeably fewer square miles than Atlantia; Meridies and
Gleann Abhann are each slightly larger. The East Kingdom is only larger
due to including Quebec and the Maritime Provinces of Canada.
In these days when it is nearly twice as expensive to go anywhere as it
was two years ago, I am afraid that we must all resign ourselves to seeing
less of our further-away friends. I am hearing this from friends in the
East, Calontir, Northshield, Gleann Abhann, the Outlands and Artemisia.
(And let's not think too hard about how long it takes to cross An Tir!)
I have no simple or easy conclusions to draw, and even if I did I would
not expect to be able to convince anyone who was not already inclined
towards similar conclusions.
