I am not sure how it would work... However, I do know that I have seen events in the past (usually the bigger ones, 12th Night, Crown, Coronation, etc.) where there was someone set up slightly AHEAD of troll for folks who wanted to do jsut that, and they were given a receipt on the spot so that they could come in as members....
I would imagine that an issue here, for some of the smaller groups who have trouble even getting enough people to man TROLL for an event, would be finding manpower enough to cover such a table....
Even if you incorporated it into a Chatelaine's table, there could be issues....
Just two doubloons,
Until the next,
Yours in service,
Cap'n Jack "The Black" of Flint
((AKA: BlackJack))

Subject: [MR] Joining at the Door
Friends and neighbors,
I have a technical question about the non-member surcharge.
I was recently visiting the Smithsonian, and went shopping in their glorious
museum shops. I bought enough stuff that the 10% member's discount was
enough to pay for the membership. I joined on the spot, got the discount,
and that was that. Afterward, I wondered: does SCA membership work the same
way? Suppose a family of newcomers arrives at our gate. Suppose they
mentally tally up the NMS and decide that it's a fair fraction of a family
membership. Can they join on the spot and pay the member rate for
admission?
I'm trying to pull together a newcomer-oriented event, and I'm sure it will
come up. Getting them to join is, of course, the whole idea.
Your servant,
Charles Fleming
