Oral history within the SCA has always been a thing of wonderment to
me.

Yeah, I get pretty with words when I type, but I really enjoy
hearing stories from people who were there when some thing happened. Or
just hearing the stories people tell of their friends, or some grand
(or not so grand) adventure they had this one time.
A bit more than
the NSTWW types of stories, a little beyond a recount of some battle,
but the real meat of the people, times and places that got us to where
we are. These stories need to be preserved, especially as our Society
grows and those who tell the stories aren't as often seen about as they
once were.

A great many people have made tremendous efforts to
write down some of these stories, but many sit in someone's skull and
they never quite get to putting pen to paper. Even then, there's
something lost as text can never quite carry the full flavor of a
story.

So, about a year ago I got involved with remastering
the recordings of some interviews done for Aethelmearc's and
Ealdormere's respective Living History Series'. Once finished, I had
about ten hours of stories in the voices of the people who were there,
doing the things and seeing them happen before them. By the end of the
year (I hope) these will start being released publicly in MP3 format,
so anyone with a computer or MP3 player can hear them.

The
thought occurred to do the same for Atlantia. That is, sit down with
people who were "there" and get stories recorded for posterity. Right
now, I could sit down with cd quality recording equipment that fits in
my palm, and just let people tell stories. I would like to do that.

The question then is, would anyone want to tell these stories? Would anyone want to hear these stories?
