 I would suggest you use cotton covered nylon thread instead of just wight
cotton hand sewing thread.  Also, is your canvas "sraight" duck or is it
sunforger?  Generally speaking, you should try to use the same fabric as the
tent is made of.  Also, if you're going to use the cotton duck, I would
definitely wash it first (so it doesn't shrink).
