Bright Hills Baronial Birthday
A Feast of Fools
February 9th, 2008
My Lords and Ladies, Good Gentles all, pray attend! Our Baroness,
Martelle von Charlottenburg, beloved Wardress of the Northern Marches, has
expressed her desire to make merry and cast away the doldrums of the bleak
mid winter!
Thereto, in obedience to Her Excellency, we do summon all who hear and can
brave the winter's harsh grasp to attend a Feast of Fools!
Site information:
The Manchester Volunteer Fire Department Activity Hall
3297 York Street
Manchester, MD 21102
This site is discreetly wet. Please no original containers.
Arts & Sciences:
Jesters should come ready to make us laugh, as well as minstrels and
storytellers.
For Competitions we offer the following:
1) The Honorable Lady Yseulte Trevelyn asks all to bring with them their
funniest tales and songs in an effort to win "The Most Humorous Original
Bardic" competition.
2) "Dueling Bards", sponsored by Lord Richard Wyn. Come and test your
mettle, your meter and your quick wit against your fellow Bards.
3) What humor is complete without assistance from a Jester? To be sure
we have well appointed Jesters Baroness Chagan Khulan challenges one and
all to present their very best Jester's Hat and Wand in a "silly Chapeau"
style competition. Documentation appreciated but not required.
4) Does this mean we are childish? Nay, good reader, but we do like to
while away the Winter with Toys and Games. To this end m'lady Tsura to je
Stariji challenges you to bring out your best Period Toy or Game. This is
a two level competition. For the older Children (sometimes called adults)
we ask documentation of you. There shall be a second judging by the true
children to select the game or toy that THEY would most enjoy.
5) Last but never least our esteemed Minister of Arts and Sciences, Lord
Denis de Dijon, offers a Mask competition in two formats. Firstly, masks
in the colors of Bright Hills - black, gold and silver. Second, for the
more exotic minded, masks in all colors. These masks may be made ahead of
time or constructed on site. There will be supplies on hand for those
wishing to assemble a mask at the event.
A Special Call to the Men of the Realm:
MEN! In tights!!!
Men! Do you have legs? Do you know how to use them?
Ladies! Is there anything more fun than watching a man strut his stuff?
Then.come the Bright Hills Feast of Fool and parade - or vote for your
favorite parader!
We will be selling rose-shaped bead tokens throughout the day and
during the first course of the feast. Between the first and second
courses, our brave, luscious-looking, tights-clad men will be
strolling the hall, stopping at your table to solicit your vote.
Buy lots of beads, and remember - Vote Early, Vote Often!
All proceeds from this activity will be going to EIF's National
Colorectal Cancer Research Alliance, which was founded by Katie
Couric after the death of her husband. In 2003-04 the death rate for
colorectal cancer dropped more than any other type of cancer. Let's
make this disease a thing of the past!
