Good gentles all,
I propose another round of 'Vivats' to the autocrat and staff of Twelfth Night!
I, like many people, I'm sure, were skeptical about an event held in a
hotel! One without a feast! Oh, horrors! What shall we do???
After the fact, I think that if anything, I enjoyed this Twelfth Night
more than several others I have attended, for MANY reasons!
1) There was a lot of space to do all sorts of things! I wasn't on the
event staff, so I don't know if there was a lot of logistical juggling
for all of that space, but as an attendee, it didn't feel like it.
2) In the same vein, being able to have a bardic, and a hafla *and*
unscheduled continuation of the ball running concurrently, within easy
walking distance of each other, was astonishing (even if I didn't ever
make it to the hafla...)
a) A hundred thousand thanks to the Dance Master, Galeran, and the
fabulous musicians who made both sets of dancing possible. I have
never seen so many people dancing at an event in Atlantia at one time,
and I have heard several gentle state that they haven't seen that many
people dancing at a Twelfth Night in more than 10 years.
b) As always, many thanks to the talented folks at the bardic circle
for sharing your talents with those of us who like to listen and sing
choruses. :)
3) While there was no feast, the hospitality room was graciously
staffed, greatly appreciated, and a well-needed spot for a pick-me-up.
I did not make use of the on-site restaurant except for breakfast, but
the little I've heard of it was good.
4) Usually Twelfth Night is at one site, and the event hotel is
somewhere else, that may or may not allow us to have a bardic, a
hafla, or dancing, or a general place to hang out running late into
the night. I was well pleased that I could pop in to each of these,
then stay at the bardic until 2 am, walk up a flight of stairs and
crash into bed without worrying about waking the 17 other people in my
cabin. Who I may or may not know. Who may or may not snore.
In all, I thought it was a wonderful event, and the staff should be
well congratulated for their vision in pulling this off!
Yours in service,
Irmgart
