Greetings to the Tavern!
I thought it'd be smart of me to give people a head's up about what
activities are currently scheduled for Kingdom Arts and Sciences Festival
this March First in Chesapeake VA (same Hall as last year). I was going to
wait until I got all my ducks in a row for the other stuff (judges, dining,
hotel reservations, you know) but that's not really fair to you guys, so
here goes:
Persona Pentathlon (Adults)
Persona Triathlon (minors)
Inter-Baronial A&S Championship
A&S Novice Tourney (work in a new media/form less than one year, no age
restrictions)
First Annual Duke Gyrth Memorial Smackdown (This is a knock-down, drag-out,
no holds barred poetry blowout)
Dance Competition
Royal Brewer's Competition
Royal Baker's Competition
Performing Arts Presentations
Guild Displays:
La Compagnia dei Maestri del Vetro (Glasswork)
The Keepers of the Clewe (knitting)
Open Displays of Arts or Crafts: Please contact me so I can get you in touch
with the organiser.
Other Fun Stuff
Historic Martial Arts: classes and demonstrations in such arts as grappling,
close-fighting, wrestling, or whatever it is that Lord Dante is organising
that sounds fun and educational.
SCA Martial Arts: Here, fishy, fishy, fishy.... don't you want to
demonstrate what it is that makes your SCA fighting style/type an art? Or
the arts involved in creating your equipment? What is the difference between
a Lorica and Full Plate, anyway, and why can't Vikings wear them?
Messy Arts: Demonstrations in woodworking, casting, beadmaking, cooking over
a fire with pottery, clay-oven baking, and whatever else YOU would like to
show people what you do that is crafty and fun... contact the Autocrat for
room arrangements and advertising (heh)*. We have space and we're not afraid
to use it! Come geek with others like you from all over the Kingdom! Compare
notes! Slobber over someone's cool set-up! Make people's fingers itch to
play too.
Coffeeshop: Coffee and tea (donations appreciated) in a relaxed atmosphere
with people happy to play or teach chess, backgammon, tafl and whatever else
YOU would like to play! With a little room for sitting and decompressing,
too.
Merchants. We likes Merchants. How do I attract merchants if I'm not on the
Merchant's List? As Autocrat, I just *know* I shall need to indulge in some
shopping therapy at some point in the day... and folks will need to buy the
equipment to practise the new arts they've been inspired to try. So far, all
I have is one really good book seller... I want MORE, more, I tell you! If I
buy all the books, what will be left for everyone else?
There will also be a children's play area and a smoker's tent, both with no
attendant, as well as a buffet dinner onsite before Court.
Organisers - if I've forgotten anything, feel free to shout it to the world!
excitedly yours,
Hrothny
* I would really like to get a few blacksmiths doing stuff. Pretty please?
And some potters, maybe? We have a nice outdoor shelter with a good solid
slab floor and walls - come play. Anyone else who's been afraid 'cause their
craft is messy? You should come infect folks with your art. You know you
wanna. Your activity is bulky but not messy? That's okay, we have room. Loom
room, in fact. (Just off the top of my head.)
