Well, I do understand both sides of the coin in the
matter. I can and do see how having nekkid people
walking around would damper the over all feel of the
situation.
But...
I also understand and remember what it felt like the
first time I was made to put on garb. I felt funny the
whole way to the event until I actually got to the
event and saw everyone else was just as "nerded" out
as I was!
I think a lot of it comes from Ren Faires getting more
and more popular. And that the Ren Faires are more in
the public eye than the SCA. People come to us with
the Ren Faire mind set. And you dont have to dress at
Ren Faires.
This, along with many other reasons is why it is so
important to remember that each and every one of us is
a Chatelaine. If we, as a whole want to keep our Dream
alive it is our responsibility to educate our new
guests. Sometimes all it takes is simply explaining
the differences between the different orginizations.
Get in touch with your local or Baronial Chatelaines
if you are not able to personally garb your/our guest
you are introducing. Most groups have loaner garb at
the ready just waiting... for that new person. Loaner
garb has experiance in the field of new persons. It's
seen many exciting events take place. It'll take very
good care of your friend. It promises... it told me
so!
Knowledge is the path to the dream. Share yours with a
new person!
