I'd say the problem is a two way street here. Maybe the adults in the story that started all this could have voiced their displeasure in a better way, but if the kids in question were speaking innappropriately in a public place, in front of small children, then yes, they needed to be called down. Part of being respected by others is to show respect to others. If they were trashing up the bathhouse, perhaps a lesson in personal responsibility was in order. As a teenager, you are old enough to learn these lessons. If you don't want to be treated like a child, then don't complain when you are treated as an adult.
I guess my point is that I think there was probably plenty of blame to go around in the initial story. I don't see it as a situation where the adult was completely at fault, abusing a bunch of innocent kids. I see some jerky behavior all around. Kids are expected by some to be trouble. Sometimes that's fair, sometimes it isn't. But it's how it is. Life's not fair. So the onus is on the kids to show that they are not going to be trouble. I feel very confident that if the kids took care of this space they've adopted, watched their language around younger children, and gave no one any reason to distrust them, they would find the adults working for them and not against them. They would be welcome where they choose to hang out.Kids, some advice: let the other guy be the jerk. You be the good guy. Yes, you have to work harder than an adult to prove yourself. That's just the way of the world.Hey, I certainly remember what being a teenage was like. Dulcy
