Friends and Neighbors,

I note with some interest the great emphasis on giving our teens something
to DO.  This terribly modern notion that we need to be productive or busy or
entertained at all times is a bad idea, no?  The novelty of loafing may be
one of the truly medieval things we could share with them.

I hereby offer a $5 cash prize for the best idea about how to take
over-stimulated, sleep-deprived, sugar-addicted, hormone-dazed teens with a
music player or video game permanently affixed to their heads, and get them
to stop and smell the roses.

"Boring" is the worst insult in a teenager's vocabulary.  Maybe that IS the
problem, and catering to it only makes it worse.
