Ok, maybe I am the "exception" to many rules, but I came into the SCA as a
teenager. My first Pennsic was not until 18, however. I do know that as a
teenager in the SCA, I was never "a problem" because I chose to involve myself
with my household, which happens to be involved in LOTS of service.

While I do believe there could be more options for teens at events
(especially Pennsic), I do not believe that the "teens" should be unsupervised. Most
of these teens parents are on the battlefield, merchanting, etc. Many of
them are actually "enjoying" Pennsic, but how many are "stuck" there because of
their parents choice to be involved? The teens that are the problem, are
usually the ones that are "stuck." They don't want to be there.

Now, as a parent, I understand that we "have" to bring our children to
events sometimes. However, a 14-17 old that doesn't want to be involved, will
make bad decisions. I think the answer is for the parents to be parents & make
better decisions on arrangements for their CHILDREN. In essence, that is
what most teens (especially bored ones) are.

Having some more mundane activities for these teens may help, but ultimately
it is up to their parents to gage their level of interest and involvement.
That is a whole new conversation though.
