<snip>> I don't think the problem is a lack of activities at Pennsic - there was a whole series of articles in The Independent on activities kids could take part in.
Imagine though if there were not a list of things for them to do. Which unfortunatly is the case at most other events. I really don't see a problem at Pennsic with the kids "hanging out". I dont see a problem with hanging out at all. the problem I am seeing is kids not having the choices adults do, becoming bored at events, and either not wanting to come at all or becoming an emotional drain on the adults around them when they do come. "I'm bored!!!...I'm hot, I'm tired..." With perhaps some scheduled activited and/or a place for them to safely be that could be limited.
I have always loved that in the SCA a parent (for the most part) didnt have to worry about their kid wondering into the wrong camp or talking to the wrong person. The first time I saw a toddler cursey to a royal I actually cried at the beauty of it.
We choose to be at events and I am sure in some cases our teens do not.
All I am thinking is lets work with them to make bringing them a little easier on the parents that just want to play and coming to events a little more fun for them. Our efforts now could very well produce a future Peer!!!
