Greetings Friends
My name is Isolda de Crosthwaite. I live and play in Dun Carraig, but
mundanely, I work in Storvik for the Maryland-National Capital Park and
Planning Commission. The Commission owns Patuxent River Park, a beautiful
site where Storvik has frequently and recently held their Novice Tourney. I
received a call from one of the Naturalists at PRP this morning. On
*this*Saturday, they have a kayaking event celebrating the landing of
Captain John
Smith, 400 years ago. It will start at the park, and boaters will kayak
upriver to Mt. Calvert. They are looking for someone in period costume to
welcome the boaters to Mt. Calvert. They don't necessarily need to have
someone to play John Smith...just someone to greet people. I realize that
this is just slightly out of our period, but I had hoped that someone who
does late period might be willing and have the time to help out. I was told
the Park Manager is even willing to pay someone for their time.
If anyone is interested, please email me *no later than Thursday*, so that I
can put you in touch with the Park Manager at PRP.
Below I am posting the email I received telling me about the event. You can
also look up Patuxent River Park and Mt. Calvert Historical Site at
www.pgparks.com.
Many Thanks for your time.
Regards,
Isolda
Join us for John Smith's 400th Anniversary Celebration!
On Saturday, August 9th, 2008, the arrival of Captain John Smith 400
years ago will be observed from 9 am until noon on the Patuxent River at Mt.
Calvert.
Participants will travel by canoe or kayak from either Patuxent River
Park(Jackson's Landing) or Jug Bay Wetlands Sanctuary with arrival at Mt
Calvert approximately at 9:45 am. Archaeologists will greet us and conduct a
presentation depicting 400 years of change on the Patuxent River using
artifacts from the dig that has been ongoing at the site of
Charlestown,first Prince George's County Seat in 1696.
You may use your own kayak or canoe or reserve one from Patuxent
River Park(301)627-6074 or if using a JBWS canoe, call 410-741-9330.
Plan to arrive at Patuxent River Park about 8:30 am in order to get
in the water by 9 am if you are departing from the Prince George's
side of the Patuxent.
If you depart from the Anne Arundel side of the river, JBWS, you
will receive instructions on when to be there to leave about 9:15am
when you merge on the river with the paddlers from Patuxent River Park.
RSVP to either Patuxent River Park, Greg Lewis (301-627-6074) to canoe from
Prince
George's County and to Jug Bay Wetlands Sanctuary(410-741-9330) to canoe
from Anne Arundel County.
Hope to see you there!
