Not that this really answers any of the question either, but the most impressive Coronation I ever attended was when Duke Valharic first took the throne of the Midrealm. (I am told this is the same Valharic)
When he marched down the aisle, reciting the name of every King who came before him, just made those of us sitting there believe that we were truly in period, watching a true coronation....

it varies from crown to crown.  for the most part it is the desire of the
incoming to select the style of transfer.  i have always opted for the
outgoing to simply leave the crowns on the thrones.  at this past coronation
their now majesties asked us to put the crowns in the care of duke valharic.
should i ever have the fortune to sit upon the throne of atlantia again i
think i will ask the outgoing king to remove the crown from his head and
place it on mine, then hand me the queens crown so that i may crown my
consort.  something just feels right to me about that.

i don't know that ive ever seen any mock force transfers and i cant imagine
that such a sight would be pleasing to me personally.  i have seen the
knights called forward to guard the thrones/crowns as well as ive seen the
great officers called forward for the same thing.  ive also heard tales of
faked deaths being the segue to the coronation ceremony (before my time i
think).

so, to not really answer your question directly...... it varies.  8)

logan
