Spike may not be pretty or inspiring, but at least he doesn't look like a cartoon character or the logo for a "trendy" seafood restaurant.

As for positions, fish have their own list of heraldic positions.? The? most common is "naiant," or swimming.? In that, the fish is simply shown horizontally oriented in the way you usually see fish.

Seriously, Atlantia already has a fish that we could use as a battle emblem - the dolphin.? The heraldic dolphin is a sort of composite of the true dolphinfish (sometimes known by its Hawaiian namd of Mahi Mahi) and the mammal.? 

Traditionally it is considered the King of the Fishes in the same way that the lion is the King of the Beasts and the eagle is the King of the Air.
