An Od Pewter Casting Class

This all day class will be begin at 10:00 am on May 4th and will be limited to the first 8 people to register. Class should de done by 6 pm. It will be at Cheryl's house at 8604 Slate Hill Circle, Frederick MD. Please e-mail Cheryl at merritt at tatrc.org if you need directions.

If you have ever wanted to learn how to carve a mold and cast pewter for site tokens, favors, buttons, or pins, this is the class for you.

This class will teach you how to carve a soapstone mold and how to make a casting. A history of pewter casting, different mold materials, and pewter alloys will be discussed.

The cost for the class will be $11 and each student will carve and take home a re-usable 2 piece mold and 6 castings of a 95/5 Tin/Antimony (a food safe pewter). Additional castings can be made at a small cost based on the weight of metal used.

Tools and supplies will be provided. Student's will need to bring an image or sketch of what they want to carve. If you can draw the image or trace an image at this scale you can carve it. The final carving will be 2 inches square or smaller and up to a quarter inch deep. You will want a mirrored image copy as well as the normal version of the image (hint you can use a mirror and trace a mirror image).

Please send reservations and questions to donya.elvira at gmail.com.
