I don't consider having an escort as a "denigration" of women or as an act
to take the shine of notice away from me during my time in the spotlight.
When I'm escorted, I see it as someone who knows that I'm not always the
most steadiest on my feet in a long dress and sometimes knees that don't
work well.

I see it as someone who recognizes the fact that I'm a lady and where I come
from, ladies are treated with respect and deference.  I think it's a lovely
tradition that no one should come into court without an escort.. male or
female :-)  I love it when I man approaches and a lady escorts him.  I think
it's great when a lady escorts her lord into court and she can stand there
to the side and get a "front row seat" for whatever is happening.

While he's getting recognized, she's getting to see his face before the rest
of the world does..

Just my two cents.. which are probably worth just that much, when
everything's considered
