Actually, there is a way that we can work to find a cure for cancer...the
American Cancer Society sponsors the Relay for Life, an overnight event held
in local communities across the US, and now being found in Europe and
elsewhere.  It is essentially a walk for cancer...a team event that
celebrates those who have survived the disease (like me and many others in
our fair Kingdom), those who have not (again, there are many we've lost) and
raises funds to support research into cures and preventative measures for
cancer, along with community support for those fighting the disease,
survivors and caregivers...not to mention educating the public about
prevention and early detection.  It is one of the few non-profits who can
honestly state that about 70% of money raised goes to fund these
efforts...and 40% finds its way back to local communities.  If you check
around, there may be an event in your community...in fact, there is
even a Relay
for Life Web site

that you can check to find your local event.  You can get your local group
(Barony, Canton or Shire) to form a team for Relay...we're doing it in Dun
Carraig, and have done so for the past 4 years or so.  It's a lot of
fun...and does a lot of good!
