Greetings all,
The instructor for the drumming class at Hidden Mountain Halfa this
weekend (April 26, Harleyville SC) asked me today if I had an idea how
many drummers or would be drummers would be attending so that he can be
prepared. Since no one puts "drummer" on reservations, I thought I
would ask the Tavern at large. If you are a drummer or if you intend to
take the drumming class this weekend, please send me an e-mail or call
and let me know so that I can pass the information on. For those
interested, the information about the class is below.
Also, we will have a class on Middle Eastern Music by instructor Aminah
bint al Megal'lid. She is offering to teach a couple of easy songs that
anyone can learn to play. Any instrument that you play is welcome.
Please bring your own instruments. She will have sheet music to borrow
or to purchase ($2/sheet). She has also coordinated with our drumming
instructor Efendi Kamuran to teach the rhythms to go with the songs so
everyone can play together. I'm sure she would appreciate advance
notice of participants so that she can have enough sheet music available.

Efendi Kamuran, teacher of Arabic drumming technique and performance
etiquette, is planning to come over from Meridies to share his
knowledge. Kamuran (the Turkish alternate persona of Yves de
Fortanier) will bring extra drums and other percussion instruments and
cordially invites you to do likewise.
Dancers! Would you like to practice coordinating with the lead
drummer? Dancers and drummers can both take turns being the leader
with Kamuran moderating.
Kamuran has taught at many events since AS 33, including two in
Southern Atlantia, was a founding member of Peach Curry, and looks
forward to meeting you at the Hidden Mountain Hafla.
[Warning: Commercialism!] He will also have for sale Peach Curry's CD,
Dancing with the Infidels. It features a melodic melange of
Mediterranean dance music ranging from the 10th century to the 20th
century. You can listen to sound clips at
