visa or amex gift cards would be better. lots of
people who have insurance still have to meet their
deductables, the most common amount is $1.000 and FEMA
does not cover deductables. You can use these cards to
pay those. also now is a good time for all of us to
double check our insurance policies for coverage when
we are out of our homes. most policies only cover
30-60 days, but in a widespread disaster, when
contractors are busy, you could be out of your home up
to 2 years. also check if it includes
mini- storage of household goods. and if you want to
give to the red cross, think again and give to the
salvation army. they stay longer, and help more than
the red cross does. I know this both as a two time
disaster FEMA employee,and as a disaster victim.
