Unfortunatly you and "all those that believe Unevent is unnecessary" have no
idea what you are talking about, and do not understand the purpose of
Unevent. It's purpose is to provide an opportunity for Kingdom level
officers to hold major meeting of their subordinates, and for meetings of
major orders to be held . Unevent provides a place for SCA officers and
orders to do needed work and not take time way from regular Kingdom Level
evens. If you are not an officer or a member of an order there is no real
need for you to even attend..unless you want to sit thru curia. I suspect,
not having been around 20 years ago when Unevent was established you fail to
see what would happen if did not occur. Unevent was began because every
last one of those meeting currently being held at Unevent were held at
Kingdom events, unsually 12th night. This meant that excessivly large
amounts of time at 12th night was taken up with meetings of the major
offices, and believe me, it was a major pain. I've seen what it was like and
if you want us to go back to that, you have not thoughly thought out the
ramifications. Twenty years ago it was bad enough with just Seneschal, Heavy
Marshals Herald, Chronicler, Exchequer, Kingdom and Peerage orders, there
are a lot more offices and Kingdom orders now than then, and personally I do
not want to see 40+ meetings shoehorned into 1 or 2 other Kingdom level
events taking away from the enjoyment of those events. While email and AIM
has allowed rapid communication it does not substitute for face to face
meetings.
