I am not sure to whom I am addressing this missive, as your signature was not included. However, hail and well met!

I would beg to differ. I do not find this conversation childish (yet), and I do think it is important. The answer to your question is yes, it does absolutely bother me to hear cell phones at events, or to see other blatantly modern items. We have a strong tradition in Atlantia of cleverly hiding or disguising our modern conveniences, and I think it makes our events all the better. In fact, it is not just a tradition, it is Kingdom law. We have chosen to place importance on the atmosphere of our events. If you travel to events in other kingdoms, I think you will find we do a far better job of hiding those modern items that, for many, detract from the atmosphere or make it difficult to immerse ourselves in our personae.

I do not believe anyone is suggesting that we rid ourselves of modern objects. There are, however, many ways in which to reduce their impact on the rest of the people attending the event. This goes beyond cell phones to things like armour bags, trash bags, soda cans, etc. I would also point out that I have recently seen many more people smoking in the main areas of events. This is also against Kingdom law, and yes, it does bother me. Simply removing yourself from the area of the listfield does not mean you aren't still in the main area of an event.

Stepping away to take your call, or smoke your cigarette, or covering your modern items are all courtesies we do to each other in order to create a better atmosphere. I hope we can always encourage such things in each other, instruct our newcomers of our ways, and gently remind our friends when they forget.

Regards,
Padraigin
