[MR] Children's Activities--An Apology

Since I seem to have managed to cause this flurry of discussion, I want to
clear a few things up, as well as apologize.

I sent a letter to the BoD, commenting on background checks. I received a
reply from the Society Seneschal, thanking me for my comments, pointing out
an area where I was incorrect (I had thought the "two-deep" rule was kingdom
policy, when in fact it has been Society policy for several years now), and
mentioning that after the feedback he has received, he's considering
suggesting to the BoD that children's activities be pulled completely. As
this was official correspondence, I had no reason to consider it in any way
private. As a sponsor of a page and as someone who's been involved in
children's activities, this upset me. Quite a bit. So, as most people on
this list say everyone should have a right to do, I ranted. In my own
friends-locked journal. Not that I spread rumors, insulted anyone, or
anything of the sort--just that I had received that email and how upset it
made me that anyone at the society level could even consider that as a
possibility. I did post my e-mail, and the society seneschal's reply.
Again, it was an official e-mail from seneschal at sca.org, so it would never
have occurred to me to consider it private.

As a result of that post, someone else suggested that I check out the
society seneschal's LiveJournal to see his side of the story. I introduced
myself, he friended me, and I read the post. Still upset, I mentioned to
Lord Alsandair and his wife, Lady Gwen, the email I had received. I also
mentioned that the seneschal's LiveJournal contained the same sentiments,
and that it sounded from the tone...at least, I hoped it was....a rant out
of frustration rather than a serious suggestion. I was ranting myself, so
how clearly that came across, I don't know. I should probably not have
mentioned that the journal even existed, let alone anything regarding the
content of a friends-locked post (even if that content was in an official
e-mail, the post itself should still have been private). For that, I
apologize, and have apologized to the society seneschal.

In Service,
Adriana Michaels
