That is my big question as well. From the article, they sound very much
like unofficial get-togethers to me, and you're right--the SCA can't be
legally responsible for non-sanctioned gatherings. In that case,
supervising the child is the parents' responsibility. (Not to imply in
*any* way, that the parents are at fault--For all I know, they might have
had every good reason, from what they knew about this person, to trust him
with their kids. I'm talking more about legal responsibility here.)
Regardless of who's to blame (besides the obvious fact that the child
molester is), it's truly a horrible situation. I'm sure all our hearts go
out to those poor kids, and to the rest of the people affected by it.
