General,
We have taken Smeewick, and are moving to consolidate our hold on the town. As you had stated, the existing stores, along with the nearby river, will allow us to re-provision our troops before the Spring push into Atlantia’s heart. However, despite your warnings otherwise, the resistance we faced as we entered the town was remarkably light. Most of the town’s militia and even the town’s Mayor fled before our approach.
While this may seem like good news, I am concerned. This is not my first campaign in Northern Atlantia, nor is it my first visit to Smeewick. It seems that in recent years they have had numerous problems with bandits, and I fear that they have picked up some of their habits. Already, sporadic strikes against our sentries have occurred, and one of the empty warehouses has been burned. I don’t know who is leading them, but their behavior is very different than in previous years.
I’ve had to allocate more men than planned to guard the full store houses, and have begun sending patrols into the woods in order to push back the insurgents. So far I have not been able to find where they are operating from. I was concerned that they may disrupt our operations enough to affect our Spring offensive, therefore I’m going to find them and destroy them well before we need to ramp up resupply operations.
I know that you already are requesting supplies from Smeewick. There are sufficient supplies in place that I can easily fulfill your requests. Provided these play-bandits do not cause more of a problem than I anticipate, our forces should be well supplied going forward.
I will keep you posted.
James
