[MR] Artisans learning about fighting

:-) I responded much the same to a person who posted a couple days ago. I
can't even tell you how many years it took me to find out what the
difference was in a flat snap and a wrap. I thought it was just in where it
hit the opponent (as in did it wrap around their body). Who knew that while
that is somewhat true, the trick is in knowing how your arm/wrist/hand have
to move to make that happen. Finally, at a University Fighting for
Non-Fighters I learned a bit more. I took away that it is as different as
rolling the shot so that the thumb side edge hits vs your pinky side edge.

Now, I was indeed blonde as a young girl and maybe it is permanent but one
of the first questions I asked my husband when he was fighting was, "How can
they call a shot flat when all your swords are round?"

Yet, there is hope for all of us...with time and contact we learn about
areas of our Society in which we do not directly participate. I would just
point out that what you think is obvious from your level of
experience....may be something totally foreign to another. It is so nice to
come upon someone who is open to questions. Would perhaps be a richer
experience for all if the Cook knew what a flat snap is and the Fighter knew
that Grains of Paradise have nothing to do with medieval Viagra.
