Again, thank you all for your concern on our behalf.

Subject: *WH* Update on my health

As reported by my lovely wife, I awoke last Thursday morning with a tad of a problem.  After getting over my macho guy self I dialed 911.  Shortly thereafter half a dozen firemen (I think two were paramedics) crashed the door.  They worked with me a while and transported me to the nearest hospital.  Being in a bit of pain I thought it might be serious.  After I heard them talking about an "emergency heart cath." and "When will the helicopter be here" I decided it really was serious.

I was flown to a great cardiac care hospital and wheeled directly into the OR.  I had 100% blockage in one artery while the rest were OK.  They put in two stints to open me up.  I am recovering nicely.  In fact, other than having a serious heart attack, I feel fine.  I was released from the hospital this morning and hope to be back in Raleigh later this week.

Due to the stints, I am not to lift more than 10 pounds for three weeks.  (My daughter is over 20 pounds.)  If we can make it to Midsummers, all I can do is sit and chat.  (This bites.)  Long term, since they got to me so quickly and restored the blood flow in less than four hours I might get full use of my heart back.  It will take up to three months for it to fully recover so I really won't know if there was any permanent damage for a while.

Although I was not fortunate for this to happen, it was fortunate, if it had to happen, for it to have happened at a time and place where I could get to excellent coronary care so quickly.  Thank goodness for 911, paramedics, great hospitals and medevac helicopters.  Without them, this would have gone very differently.

At any rate, I am recovering nicely and have been told to get lots of rest to allow my heart to heal.  I really am looking forward to getting home soon.

Geoffrey ~
