[MR] calling cards

I know that they were really big in Jane Austen's time. They had a whole
set of rules that went with them. You left a card if you were going out of
town with a note of when you would be back. You left a note when you were
new in town and wanted to meet people. You left a card for just about
anything.
I found an article where it talks about the first calling cards appearing
during the reign of Louis 14th.

If you look at Wikipedia under "Visiting Cards", it dates them back to China
in the 15th century.
Someone should do an A & S project on this.
