No reason to think that it's a hoax. At the risk of straying OT on this list,
please let me share a few bits of hard-learned lore with you all.
The "father of pharmacology", Paracelcius, said (in period, no less):
"The dose makes the poison."
Many people forget this basic principle. ANY substance that affects the
way your body works can be harmful in sufficient amounts. That includes
substances that are generally considered "inert", "safe" or even "essential".
Inert substances such as atmospheric nitrogen or argon can kill
you if there's a great enough concentration to displace essential oxygen.
OTC substances kill people every year; try doing a search on:
aspirin fatal overdose
We have repeated instances of hospitalization, and at least two
deaths, for overdoses of just plain WATER! Too much of it upsets the
electrolyte balance of the body . . . and you die.
Now, this isn't intended as a course in "Pharmacology 101", so I've left
many important ideas unexpressed, but I do want to plead with you:
Please, guys, DO remember that you can hurt yourselves
even with allegedly "safe" things. Moderation in all things.
