Greetings unto all in our fair Kingdom,

I have read with interest of a new, sponsored competition to be held
at the coming Coronation of our Princeps and Princepessa, Logan and
Rowan.

I have some ideas for folks to think about when constructing their
fans for this fine artistic idea.

If you are of the camp that will make their fans from scratch - think
about making the fan 'blades' (is that correct terminology) from balsa
or basswood (may or may not be of our time period, but light and
forgiving to a point), or try thin sheets of polymer clay to imitate
ivory. Or use horn, or bone from another creature that has been
bleached white/cream.

Or, if you are of the camp that is not making a fan from scratch,
consider your base to be of plastic that looks realistic. In this
case, it will probably help to take a small knife blade (xacto) and
carve out the mold extras to better define the cut outs and other
details.

Feathers are fun, and so is rice paper for the actual 'fan'.

Have fun!

Miriel
