[MR] In search of Bog Myrtle seeds/plants

Bog Myrtle is a non-native plant with specific growing conditions, see the
two websites below:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Myrica_gale

As for sources, locally I do not know of any. Below is a link to a list of
growers of unusual herb plants. Bog Myrtle and close relatives (Bayberry)
seem to need special growing conditions. Since the leaves are used in making
heather beer and ale, local brewers or breweries might be a source of
information about obtaining plants locally. This is a link to a list of herb
and plant growers from North Carolina State University.

As for immediate local sources of the plant I know of none. It is well late
into the season for planting herbs in this area but if the plants are
obtained I would suggest not planting them until fall if they are winter
hardy in zone seven and eight. I suspect that this plant might be happier in
zones five or six but if someone is willing to create the right environment
(best gotten from someone who has successfully grown it) it may be possible
to grow it in warmer climates. Another source of the plant may be obtained
through some of the Herb e mail lists. I have grown several kinds of myrtle
and sweet bay and none are winter hardy in zone seven and eight with the
exception of those native to the area or hybridized to be hardy in these
zones.

Can I piggyback on this request? I've got a lovely lady in my Barony who's
VERY interested in herbalism and gardening. I'd LOVE to inspire her with
something like this.
