Lady Aneira's post is a very good and timely reminder. I can't wait to see
what the artisans of this kingdom produce. I am not a scribe, calligrapher or
illuminator. I admire the work done by all of those who are.
Might I make one small suggestion, please? As a herald I have been surprised
by the space left for nameson scroll blanks here. I've worked in the SCA
heraldic submissions process for several years and know that the number of names
short enough to find on a one-inch line in any calligraphic hand is very
low. The number of names that require more space is significant.
My own, for example, is not a crazy name . . . Gisela vom Kreuzbach . . .
add my title, Herrin . . . That's not fitting on a one-inch line. Our good
baronne here in Sacred Stone, Alianor atte Red Swan or the baroness of Black
Diamond Nastasiia Rosenzweig. One might even be hard pressed to fit either
baron's name in some lines I've seen, though their names are lovely short . . .
Marc d'Aubigny or Angus Farquhar. If you get into certain Italian, Gaelic,
Moorish or Middle Eastern names, well, you see my point.
Please, when designing the calligraphy and deciding on spacing for name and
date, allow for enough space.
Thank you all for your talent and service. It is muchly appreciated.
Be well
