I do try to compliment people I see wearing nice garb, but I'm sorry, I have
to respectfully disagree that a token just means "Nice. Check." I think that
people who enter their work in A&S *should* be commended - it's a LOT of
work to prepare an item and its documentation, find the display area, fill
out paperwork, etc. Not to mention the intestinal fortitude that it requires
for many people. Comments are nice, but cannot always be delivered in
person. Frequently at events I have limited time to check out the A&S
displays and competitions. If I see something that impresses me, chances are
very good that I don't know the entrant (and thus wouldn't recognize them)
OR that I have to get back to taking care of my son and can't hunt someone
down to talk to them. So I do what I can in the short time I have available
- I leave a note and a token, if I have something appropriate with me.
Sometimes that's all I can manage, and I'm fairly annoyed by the
implications that it's not good enough, that it doesn't mean anything and I
shouldn't bother.

I am pleased to hear from the artisans who appreciate the tokens they've
received for their work. I certainly appreciate and treasure every one I
ever got, and they all mean something to me, regardless of whether every
other entrant got exactly the same one.
