Greetings all,
This is just a reminder that we are having a full track of classes on
horses in the SCA at the Winter Atlantian University session in
Claremont, NC February 3, 2007.

Registration is now open on the University website.

If you have any questions on the classes, contact the instructor or

Hour 1: 10 am to 11 am

Class name  Medieval Cavalry:  Utilization and Equipment
Class duration (1 hour )

Class description Mounted warriors were utilized in several different
manners during the history of warfare in the Middle Ages.  Description
of types of mounted units and the equipment used by both the rider and
the horse.  Training techniques utilized and how they are incorporated
into SCA mounted games.

Hour 2: 11 am to noon

Name of Class: Cavalry Activities for Beginners
Instructor: Lady Victoria Pringle
Description: Are you interested in cavalry activities but don't know
what they involve or what requirements they have?  Do you wonder what
clothes to wear? Haven't been around a horse since the pony ride when
you were 8? Then this is the class for you. We will cover all the basics
for cavalry activities in the SCA so if you are new to horses or just
new to the SCA cavalry this is the class for you.

Duration: 1 hour
No fees
No limits



Hour 3: 1:30 pm to 2:30 pm

Name of class: Cavalry Liability Class
Duration: 1 hour

Description: This class covers basic safety issues dealing with horses
and the Cavalry games and is required for all riders, ground crew,
waterbearers and anyone wishing to help on the Cavalry field.

Hour 4: 2:30 pm to 3:30 pm

Class name - Running a Formal Emprise
Class duration (1 hour or 2 hours) - 1 hour

Class description (a short paragraph on what the class is about)   How
to run a Cavalry Event Based on the Formal 14th Century Emprise.  The
Emprise presents the finest in pomp, circumstance, pageantry,
gallantry, skill and horsemanship of the Middle Ages. The class covers
everything you need to know to organize or participate in such an
event.

Hour 5: 3:30 pm to 4:30 pm

Name of class: Cavalry Marshalling 101
Duration: 1 hour
Teacher: Lady Brandwyn Alston of the Rift BrandwynAlston at gmail.com
Description: This class fulfills the MIT requirement for becoming a
Cavalry Marshal. It covers the Marshal-in-Training program and the
rules concerning marshalling equestrian activities in Atlantia.
Fee: none
Handout provided



Hour 6: 4:30 pm to 5:30 pm

Name of class: Barding, Historical and for Today

Duration: 1 hour

Teacher Eleri Vwyn, Atlantia

Description: will cover the development of decorative barding in
period and some ideas for the modern Scadian horse.

Fees: Handout 1 dollar

Limit: no limit of class size
