Greetings from Master Tristan Alexander, Clerk Signet of Atlantia.
Lady Daniela Schwartzhaupt served as Promissory deputy and overall did a
fine job. I am sorry to see her step down but I wish her luck in refining
her art. She is already a fine calligrapher and illuminator and does
wonderful scrolls so I have no doubt her work will become even more
spectacular with more focus on it and less on kingdom things.
I send this message to say there is no need for anyone to fill this position
as I am eliminating it. With the quality and availability of color printing
and with the technology of computers and scanners I plan to create a library
of scroll blanks that will be available online. These will only need to be
printed out and have the recipient, king and Queen's name and date added by
hand. This will save the time and materials that have previously been spent
on hand coloring and hand calligraphy promissories for real scrolls.
I know some like to use promissories as "practice" before moving on to real
scrolls and I understand that they have been useful for that. I would
suggest that Baronial level award scrolls be used for this "practice".
I now need good clear scans of as many scrolls as I can get so that I can
make the printable promissories. I have several of my past scrolls that I
will be making available for this project and hope many other illuminators
will share their work as well. I will strip out the words originally done on
a scroll (and any arms that might appear) and will add in by computer,
standard scroll texts for the blanks.
I hope I have explained this well enough, if you have any questions please
contact me at signet at atlantia.sca.org
In service and friendship,
Master Tristan Alexander
Signet
