first i would like o hank all of those involved in unevent this past
weekend. the hospitality we were shown was wonderful. the meetings started
on time (thank you ceridwen for the hourly updates via the intercom). thank
yous are also due to all of our great officers for your hard work and
instruction. unevent, while not the most enjoyable of sca events, is a
valuable tool for current offices, future officers, and those who are simply
interested in the day to day workings that keep this society of ours
running. without those officers none of this would be possible. while the
size and breadth of kingdom and society laws seems overwhelming at times
they are, however, needed to allow the sca to run and to allow all of us the
pleasures and entertainment it brings. law is an ever changing and living
document that constantly needs attention and minor tweaking. due to the
diligence of our officers that tweaking is minuet at worst. if not, our
curia would have taken longer than six minutes.

in closing i would like to thank all of those that attended our town hall
meeting. it was productive and refreshing. this came about for two
reasons. the first was that at our coronation her majesty and i attended a
new comers meeting. i was delayed with other business but her majesty was
there to start this meeting on time. when i arrived i was delighted to join
an open discussion between her majesty and a number of new folks to the sca
and some new folks to atlantia. the discussions were candid and inviting
and they provided a glimpse of the "man behind the curtain" so to speak. i
felt it was a good thing and i wondered if it was something that could be
done more often. the second push to do this, albeit at the last minute, at
unevent this weekend was the surprising amount of misinformation and
incorrect assumption that came about when a slight law change was dropped on
the merry rose. the amount of support we received after that was
outstanding but i felt the need to give others an opportunity to discuss,
face to face, their concerns with us. while her majesty and highness were
attending other meetings i was joined by his highness and baroness fiona,
the kingdom seneschal, and about 35 others. it was a pleasure to host this
conversation and it was even more inspiring to speak with so many of you
afterwards. again, the level of support from everyone we spoke with before
the town meeting and after curia was astounding. i spoke with better than a
dozen folks who felt they were against the change in the wording of
principal selection who had a totally reversal of those feelings once they
sat and actually heard the facts of how the process works, and the need to
correct the wording. again, it was refreshing.

so much good came from that meeting and from the discussions it sparked that
we feel it is something that should be repeated. so, to that end, we are
going to try to set time aside at each event we attend to sit and meet with
folks that have questions, concerns, or comments that they would like for us
to address or hear. we will try to make sure announcements are made as
early as possible during events as to the where and when of these town hall
meetings and we look forward to seeing folks there.

once again, thank you to all that made the trip this weekend and sat in on
the various meetings. i hope you all came away with a better understanding
of the specifics of each meeting you attended. i know i did.

regards

logan
