>From Lady Elena di Salaparuta:
As many of you know a great Atlantian and SCAdian has left us this year. She is one to whom many of us owe a debt of gratitude. Mistress Caitlin Cheannlaidir graced us with her presence as a teacher, an A&S judge, and as the Mistress of La Compagnia dei Maestri del Vetro. Many of us, including me, Elena di Salaparuta, owe our introduction to hot glass to her. At Highland River Melees we held a lampwork bead competition in her memory that was, in addition, a fundraiser for the Susan G. Komen Foundation.
By the request of her Highness, Princess Rowan, we will be holding a competition at her Coronation on Saturday, September 1 in memory of Mistress Caitlin and all of our other friends and family who passed from this same cancer . Entries are to be a string of between three and seven beads, in Her Highnesss colors of red, silver (white), and gold (yellow), or the Atlantian colors of blue, silver (white), and gold (yellow), in a style of your choice. As I recall Her Highness is partial to Middle Eastern Eye beads and as the Coronation theme is the Silk Road, probably also Warring States beads. You may enter as many times as you wish.
As the sponsor, I am donating the prize of one pound of glass to be split between the two winners, one in the novice group - under two years of bead making - and one in the experienced group. Not only will one of the competitors win, but also the Susan G. Komen Foundation will win, as it will receive all donations from the competition.
Judging of the beads will be by the populace. Each bead will have a container beside it and the populace will vote by making monetary donations which will go to the Foundation. The beads that garner the largest donation will be the winner. The beads will be then be auctioned off before feast and funds from the auction will also be donated to the Foundation.
You do not need to have documentation and you do not have to be present to enter. However, please include a note card with your name, your local group, and a description of the beads to be placed by your entry. You do not even have to be an Atlantian to enter! Please either bring your entry to the A&S Hall at Coronation (by noon) or send it marked novice or experienced with your SCA (if you have one) and modern name and address by August 30 to:

Remember the beads will not be returned. Thank you!
Please feel free to cross-post this message.
Many thanks,
