This year anyone who uses handicapped transportation
will tell you it was a mess at Pennsic this year.
First of all the normal 4-6 golf carts brought in for
use by handicapped services was reduced to one, yep
just one for all of Pennsic. Secondly, since there was
only one cart, they also did away with dispatch for
handicapped services and routed all requests through
the regular dispatch that fields all the regular
calls. What caused this, I asked the Mayor of Pennsic?
She first told me they did not have enough volunteer
drivers for more than one cart, when I offered to get
her more, she then admitted that she only budgeted for
one cart. That They had a lot of extra expenses, like
the minimum wage going up. But isn't that why we paid
more to get in to Pennsic I asked? Well, then it was
that the Kingdoms might gripe at her for more of their
share of the profits. Now mind you that they already
saved money by cutting out the handicapped dispatch,
because it was in an air conditioned trailer, so they
saved on the cost of the trailer, the equipment, and
the power. She also stated that people abused the use
of the carts by saying they were handicapped and just
wanted a ride back to camp, so I suggested that they
issue a card or a sticker for your medallion as proof
that you were indeed handicapped, this we could do
right away. She said it would be too time consuming
and that they would keep my idea in mind for next
year. As for Chirurgeoning, the head Chirurgeon for
pennsic this year and the new one for next year
announced that fighters who require the assistance of
golf carts to chirurgeon's point will now have to
leave their armor on the field, or with someone, but
they will no longer bring your armor with you. Why?
because they felt that other people might complain
that we are providing golf cart transportation to
fighters and not every one else. now mind you, know
one had actually complained because most of us know
that if you see a fighter being taken from the field
in a golf cart, it is because they are in need of care
at chrurgeon's point, but they are worried that
someone might complain. I stated that fighters may
refuse treatment rather than abandon their armor, but
they didn't care. I guess none of them know how much
armor costs. I won't even go into why at the woods
battle we have to stay back across the road, behind
the water bearers now, but I just want to let you all
know what is going on for next year in hopes that
changes might be made if you contact the folks in
charge for next year, or make any changes you need to
for yourself. By the way, I offered my time to help
out to try to make changes for this year and was
turned down, but I also put in over 20 hours at
chirurgeon's point, because if you don't participate,
you can't change anything. Gwynwilf.
