Solution in search of problem.
That's along the same lines as the BoD
mandating a change in Chirurgeonate guild titles, from Apprentice -
Journeyman - Master, to Chirurgeon-in-Training - Chirurgeon - Mentor
Chirurgeon. Someone got their undies in a bunch, fearing that a
person being treated might object to an apprentice, based on the
possible perception that a Master would have superior medical
knowledge.
This completely ignores the fact that in order to become an
Apprentice / CiT, one has to already have the First Aid / CPR
certifications that let you treat up to the maximum allowed by the
Chirurgeonate. If someone were to sue based on having been treated by
an Apprentice instead of a Master, it would take about 30 seconds to
point out that Guild ranks are based on having a clue about the SCA
side of things, not medical knowledge. I recall working a shift where
the Crew Chief was the Society Chirurgeon at the time (MC with First
Aid / CPR qualified), I was the treating Journeyman (FA/CPR), and the
two 'prentices were a Paramedic and an RN.
Lawyer: So, Mr. G, rather than hand my client off to the "Master
Chirurgeon", you had him treated by a lowly Apprentice? Why was that?
Chirurgeon: Well, it might have something to do with the fact that in
real life, the Master Chirurgeon is a lawyer with a first-aid card,
and the Apprentice is a neurosurgeon.
Judge: [ROFLHAOFOTB] Dismissed.
(Can you tell that this pushed a button of mine?)
