It may well do so, but at detriment to us all. I have seen group
gifts to royalty go away because of financial rules. I have seen all
manner of once-accepted niceties and nods to royalty go away because
of these damned mundane intrusions. Yes, I understand the legalities,
but that doesn't mean I have to be happy with, or approve of them.
The increasing bureaucratization of the SCA over the 30 years or so
that I've been a member has only slowly, steadily, chipped away at
the magic and pomp and royalty and-- well, the "Dream" if you will --
of the SCA. I can't see *any* benefit of the increased scrutiny and
oversight that was not there in 1978.
Personally, I deplore it. And I deplore the attitude that it projects
and that it fosters.
Though my personal budget is tight, I am with Sir Justus. If I can
help the cause, I will. I was trained and raised up (and made a peer
twice over) on the tradition of "The King's word is law" and "The
correct answer is, 'Yes, Your Majesty'."
