What a difference two weeks can make! It is hard to believe that two weeks ago Gene was feeling abdominal pain and was diagnosed with the need for emergency gall bladder surgery. As you all know it has been a harrowing, frightening and emotionally draining two weeks for Gene, Beth, family and friends. It is incredibly gratifying to report that Gene is with us and on the mend. He recognizes his visitors, is joking, being crabby (sometimes) and is grateful (as is Beth) for the love and support that all have shown them. 

We are hopeful that Gene will be moved to a regular room in a few days. He still has a bacterial infection that requires guests to be gowned and he is resting off and on all day. He has a speech therapist that is visiting him and helping with his early rehab. It will be a long and challenging process to get him back on track but where there's a will, there's a way!

As Gene is out of immanent danger I will turn the correspondence of his condition over to Beth. She will send out periodic updates to this full list but feel free to contact her if you want to be kept more up to date. She can create an e-list of folks interested in more frequent updates.

It is still too early to tell how long Gene will be in the hospital but rest assured that when he is able to move home we will send out the call for casseroles! Again, on behalf of Gene and Beth thank you all for your support and generosity. I am repeating their address below as cards and notes are especially appreciated.
