Greetings! First let me apologize if you see this multiple times. I'm trying to see what interest there is for the class I am proposing. If there is not enough interest, I will have to cancel it, because of the cost of supplies. Thus, here is the proposal:

Instructor's Name: Julienne fille Gaspard, mka Jewel Shuping
Class Title: Period Pigments: A 14th century palette
Fees: $40 each
Maximum number of Students: 5
Duration of Class: One hour
Synopsis of Class:
-History of period pigments
-Required: sink or washing station, or placed close to a bathroom (not -required, but preferable, in case of pigments (God forbid!) getting in eyes.

I have started using period pigments, and while I have not used them for a scroll yet, I have made them, and painted tests with them, and painted tests with them. After doing this myself, and bringing them to a demo where they got much attention, I thought to have a class for scribes interested in using period pigments (specifically the pigments used in a 14th century palette). This class would be taught at Summer University, on June 2nd in the Barony of Storvik (College Park, Maryland)

The reason for the fee is that I will supply
-a palette of ten colours used in a 14th century palette (Lamp black, ceruse lead white, vermillion red, verdigris, yellow ochre, minium red lead (orange), synthetic ultramarine, and azurite mineral).
-a glove bag used to prepare the dried pigments. This is necessary because several of the pigments are poisonous if breathed in or touched. It is not -necessary- to use a glove bag or box, but it is the best way because they are dangerous, and a glove bag or box is the -preferred- way of avoiding poisoning
-gum arabic for binding
-gloves
-water dropper bottles
-buddy cups (individual sealed cups for holding the mixed pigments)
-handouts, of course

I would really like to teach this class, so people who are interested but aren't sure where to start can learn about period pigments. However, the initial cost of supplies will be almost $200, and that is a bit more than I can afford to spend on things that won't be used. The purpose of this class is to show the history and origins of the pigments used in the 14th century (where they came from, what were alternatives, how were they used), and to teach the students the process of making the paints out of dry pigments.

I hope there is interest in a class of this type. If you have interest in attending this class, please write to me (avani_pari @ yahoo.com) and let me know. If there is no or not enough interest, I will prepare a class on the history and origins of the pigments only, without the part showing how to prepare them.

Vivats the Dream,
Julienne fille Gaspard, mka Jewel

P.S.-Please crosspost to any lists you deem appropriate (I would be forever grateful if someone would post it in the Pearl and Laurel lists, as well as any local groups who may have interest).
