[MR] Strong languange on the Merry Rose (Re: Society Notice)

Sir Axel, I believe that the actual period use would be El Torro Caca, or perhaps a more latin use. I would ask Sir Tosh to chime in on that.

In my humble opinion we have 3 issues going on-
1-The Bod's proposal-As the SCA attracts more youth to it, we are going to attract more pedophiles. This has occurred in Scouting, 4H, indian guides, the Y's, and other groups. These organisations are basicaly hunting grounds for these preditors that cannot be cured. We (The SCA.) are moving into these areas and are striving to find it's way to a solution.

2-The cost to people-Yes, the BOD's plan going to increase the budget for the kingdom because there will be a lot of people that will have to get this done. The logistics of this is going to be murder, desiding who will need this check and who will not, and who is going to tract this? MOL, MArshals, Pages acadamy, see were this is going. However, if you have a better idea, let them know. Remember that that pedophiles are organised, have support groups, and can get fake security reports, the Scouts found that out. THat is why the BOD want to use a company they know.

My question is that we are a not for profit organisation, if we require this for members involved with the kids, and they pay for it themselves, is this a tax exemption?

3-Kids in the SCA-Atlantia is way behind in the area of youth combat and other youth activities and this is doing a grave diservace to our Kids. I remember all the El Torro CACA we went through re inventing the combat rules. All we had to do was take the rules from the kingdom that had been doing it the longest and use them to start! Now we have another potential block. These kids are a great part of our future as a organisation, and we need to hang onto them. In Scouts there is a great loss of kids as they go into late teens and discover other things. In the SCA there is a lot of room to keep a kid interested into adulthood. If our SCAKids find it too difficult to play because there are not enough adults to supervise due to this new rule, that would be a shame and a loss.

The BOD needs imput and ideas, that we can all do. However I think that added awareness and vigulance is something we all need to embrace. I as a father know that people like Sir Logan and others would do great bodily harm to any that touched my two children. (Although Jessie is getting a little scary with her evil lefthanded sword work. I pitty the fool.) If we strive to create a enviroment were the SCAkids are safe, and we make it clear to all that attend events that this behaivor and others described in these messages, will just not be tolerated.

I'm sorry; I did not consider the word as being strong enough to be
considered inappropriate. I am sorry that I overstepped the bounds of what's
considered acceptable in this forum. It will not occur again.

While I realize that you are upset about the background checks,
please take care when posting to the Merry Rose. It's very possible
that minors are subscribed to the list and I don't believe language like
that is appropriate. Please keep that in mind for future postings.
