[MR] background checks and chicken little

Our household also watches its younger members and always has. I have done
childrens activities in the society for more than 25 years and having a
background check is not an outrageous thing. If someone can't afford it
perhaps there are other ways to obtain it.
1) if you are a school teacher of any kind in VA the school district has
done one and they hold it at the records office and at the local police
department. It is your file you have a right to look at it and have a copy
made.
2) if you are a scout leader of any kind you also have one sitting in the
local office as well as national.
3) if you are a government employee...
4) if you don't have any of these and can't afford it maybe the local group
can help you out and you can pay them back if it is decided that the
volunteer has to pay for it.
I don't know if these will fulfill the society need but it might.

Ah, but since when has slowing down and taking a deep breath been a part of
the excitement on the Merry Rose? ;-)

hey guys, the chicken little syndrome is in full swing here. if everyone
would just take a deep breath and wait patiently for some more information
from the society seneschal there will be plenty of time for panic and
dismay. only then it will be with a little more information and wont seem
so kooky and disjointed.
until things get all sorted out and in place there is always still that
weird concept that parents will actually have to watch their own children.
we have to keep dogs on a leash at events and that hasn't hurt anyone, why
not kids. in my household there are a number of young children. ive spent
time watching them at events and can continue to do so even after the
background checks go into effect. so parents have options other than
dropping their kids off with a stranger.
but lets wait until the sky actually starts to fall before we all panic. i
have dogs and cats and they aren't sleeping together just yet. i will let
everyone know the moment that happens.
