Following are the details for the A&S competitions at the upcoming Hawkwood Baronial Birthday (April 28th). We promise to utilize considerate judges and try to leave good commentary! Also, we will have an area for open display and invite gentles to display their works!

A&S COMPETITION DETAILS:

Leather armor - Be it sacking a village or wooing the livestock, it's always important to look your best. Show us your best leather armor and remind everyone why it's good to use protection - remember, chicks dig scars, but you can't show them off if you're dead! Documentation and cowhide required.

Best Viking Hair Braids - Don't you just hate it when your bangs flop in your eyes as you're carrying that sheep back to the longboat? Not this year! Show us your finest plaited tresses on or off the field, be they beard or brow and noggin. No documentation required, but if you wish to be considered, submit a picture of your bodacious braids or be there in person at (insert time we set for judging) for the judges to view your 'do.

Best Use of Wool - The Scots take pride in the fairness of their sheep, so bring your finest fleeces in whatever form you desire and show off your sharp, sheepy skills in spinning, weaving, knitting, dyeing or whatever woolen way you choose. Documentation and wool required, sheep optional.

Best use of Wood - All this talk of fighting, fabulous hair and sheep in the springtime often brings up the wood, so go there and show us your creativity and skill in using this versatile tree product in anything from carved prows for ships, handles for your new axe head, beds for your favorite wench or mugs for your favorite brew. Documentation required and remember, it's not about size!

Best song or poem with the theme "MacGregor's Farm" - After enjoying a day of raiding, wenching, barn-breaking and cow-tipping, settle down and tell us a little bit about the happenings down on the farm, be it in poem, prose or song. Documentation not required but bonus points awarded for the most period form! Just provide a written copy for the judges...and perhaps be ready to perform the piece should the MacGregor's themselves request it during feast!

Brewing - In addition, Hawkwood's Order of the Silver Hawk (A&S Order) is sponsoring a brewing competition, covering beer, wine and cordials. Documentation is recommended.

Viking Herb - Vikings, Scotts, and the entirety of Europe has used the Sciences of plants for many different purposes and needs. The Plinean Academie of Atlantia, the Herbology Guild, is sponsoring a competition of the best use of herbology in any medium. The focus is from a Viking perspective and period. Documentation is not required but is appreciated and a plus. If there are any questions concerning this sponsored competition, please contact Lord Menua of Black Oak Grove at catmajick at hotmail.com for more information.
