[MR] Out-of-pocket Expense - Background Check

Considering that my mail box is over flowing at this point, what has
Society suggested as a pass/fail for doing the background checks?  If
the cost is under $30 per person, would the suggestion to make this an
out of pocket expense for the volunteer as part of the training be too
much to ask?

If that were the case (that they would make it an out-of-pocket expense for the volunteer), I would regretfully  never do children's activities in the SCA. $30 is a week's worth of groceries or a full tank of gas. Children hold a special place in my heart, but I wouldn't be able to afford $30 just out of my pocket for a background check. Personally, I think it'd be ridiculous to make a volunteer pay a fee, and the number of volunteers (already very slim) who step forward to help with children's activities would become much smaller a sample. They'll probably much rather go volunteer free bringing water around the list field, or helping scrub pots and pans in the kitchen.
