A&S competitions have their place the same way
competitions on the field have their place. I don't
enter many competitions myself but some people like
the pressure of a competition for a goal in getting
work done etc. Sometimes an event isn't enough.
Sometimes the pressure of a deadline for a competition
works for htem. There is a sharing of knowledge even
if it's limited.
If you don't like A&S competitions don't enter them.
But there's no reason to restrict them from people
that do like them. Clearly competitions are popular
with a lot of people and not with others.
Judging isn't my favorite past time and I'm happy to
let others handle it if they're as qualified as I am
to judge a subject. However judging is a
responsibility we create when we accept that some
people like competitions and want to continue with
them.
