Gene is eating solid food (if you can call mashed potatos solid) and responding well to those in the room. He has bacterial infection which requires all visitors to be gowned when visiting. He also has a health care worker with him around the clock. The Speech Therapist has visited again and confirmed that he is swallowing well and can more on to more solid food. She also suggested that it would be helpful to Gene if, when visiting, you reinforce information like what day it is and other everyday things going on to help him get centered. There is also a new Doctor over seeing the case that appears to be proactive with getting things moving with his rehab.
