[MR] [atlantianrapiernet] Night on the Town -- Who are the good guys?

A unit of infantry numbering over 100 marched on toward
Smeewick, set to fall under the command of the Gardiner's
Companie once they reached their makeshift base of
operations. En route, at the base of a large hill, a glint
of sun at the top of the knoll revealed the presence of a
lone Dragoon Cutter sent to gather intelligence and return
to Celric.

As more eyes turned toward him, the Dragoon gave up all
pretense of stealth and began hurling down insults at the
unit, provoking the commander. Haughty and righteous in his
saddle, he ordered two soldiers to go and capture the
Dragoon. As the soldiers approached, the Dragoon retreated
over the crest of the hill; when the soldiers followed, the
sounds of battle could immediately be heard, followed by an
abrupt silence.

Moments later, the Dragoon emerged to once again berate and
deride the commander and his troops, crying down that the
only reason he even had a command was that no one else
wanted to be responsible for such a ragtag bunch. Enraged,
the commander dispatched ten soldiers. Again the Dragoon
retreated over the crest, and again the soldiers followed.
This time the sounds of combat went on for minutes as the
commander smiled, confident that his troops would bring back
the head of the upstart. His smile left his paling face when
the Dragoon emerged again, spattered in blood and grinning
down at him.

Now shaken by both rage and fear, the commander ordered
twenty more after the Dragoon. As soon as they pass out of
sight, the unmistakable sound of war rings out, the clang of
steel on steel matched only by the unhallowed screams of the
dying. Silence falls again, and a lone soldier staggers back
over the hilltop, mortally wounded.

“Sir,” he cried down, gasping for his last breaths.
“Sir, it’s a trap! Don’t send any more men! There are
*two* of them!”

 “
and then Kenji-san and I returned to give you this
news: Gardiner’s Companie has indeed managed to send for
aide, and we must assume that more are coming.” Celric
paused, leaning forward in his chair to consider the
news. After a moment of thought he looked up, and his eyes
met those of his captains.

“Dante, do you mean to tell me,” he queried with mock
incredulity, “that some people need reinforcements to
secure victory?”
