Concealed carry can go off into a complete tangent of it's own, but don't
many of the sites where we hold events belong on the list of
"cannot-carry-here"? Churches, schools, and government property (like state
parks) are places where you cannot carry, even with a permit - yea I know,
the places you need them most. Go figure :-| You also aren't permitted to
operate a firearm within x-distance from the consumption of alcohol - at
least in South Carolina. Different state laws have different verbiage
regarding what situation is permitted to use a firearm to stop a threat if a
life is in imminent danger and would again require VWP carriers to be
famliar with the laws of the host state - it is their responsibility anyway,
however I wanted to point that out. I think that all-in-all this would not
be a good idea to make a requirement as there is too much involved with
technicalities and legal issues.

Also something to take into consideration is that not all states have
reciprocity with all other states who have carry permits. Since we have
people from different states attending events, they would have to make sure
that the state they are entering holds reciprocity (or at least accepts)
carry permits from their home state. Otherwise, the CWP is invalid. Also,
those who have carry permits are probably already packing wherever they are
permitted, and you would never know unless they told you (or unless it was
needed). I personally know at least one person who is always armed where
ever it is legal and practical.

Most of the time, just having an ever-present and visible person supervising
the children who is also obviously looking out for potential threat is
enough. A child wandering around the site unattended, I would think, would
be more likely to be harmed or taken than children who stay with the group
and are attended by adults.

Requiring all responsible for children, other than their parents, to get a
CWP is a nice idea, but I don't see it happening as there are just as many
folks who would merrily go through SLED to get their CWP as others would
prefer not to touch a gun ever. Besides, it's pretty hard to shoot someone
who is running, let alone running away with precious cargo that you do not
want to hit.
